A study conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of monoclonal antibody (mAb) cocktail against the Delta variant has noted that the treatment can neutralize the Delta variant and reduce severe disease and death in infected high-risk individuals by 100%. The study was conducted by AIG Hospitals, Asian Healthcare Foundation, CCMB Hyderabad and Institute of Life Sciences.
The study, titled `Effectiveness of REGEN-COV antibody cocktail against the B.1.617.2 (delta) variant of SARS-CoV-2: A cohort study’, published in the Journal of Internal Medicine, revealed that high-risk patients who were infected with the Delta variant had faster resolution of symptoms and decreased viral loads when treated with REGEN-COV cocktail from Roche.
AIG Hospitals chairman, Dr D Nageshwar Reddy, stated that 75% of the patients receiving the antibody cocktail were RT-PCR negative by Day 7 and 78% of the patients had relief of clinical symptoms, such as fever and cough, by the same time.
